If Britain had been destroyed by the Germans I doubt they'd be particularly interested in Indian independence at all, let alone the creation of a Muslim state, and all internal affairs in India would have shifted towards A) repressing fifth columnists and any talk of German collaboration and B) mobilising the population to defend the now-vulnerable western border. Until the Partition had actually happened nobody even knew where Pakistan would be, which is one of the reasons why the partition was so bloody. ![]() ![]() Inter-communal hatred was rising during the war years, with massacres like Direct Action Day taking place, but the actual creation of a Muslim state in India was a matter for the British.
